One Last Time

One last time, the heart is afraid,
As the news breaks in.
One last time, the burning feeling in your stomach,
Followed by denial and grief and pain.
One last time the eyes start blurring,
As they fill up with memories.
One last time, that choking feeling,
And it gets really hard to breathe.
One last time, you see your loved one,
Lifeless, laying peacefully still.
One last time, you hope they'd return,
And it hits you that they never will.
One last time, the consolation,
That they're in a better place.
One last time, and then it all comes back again,
The last time you see their face.
